Do What Matters
What leading a child protection organisation in cambodia taught me about life and leadership.
A Book by Nicky Mih
Do What Matters The Book
Do What Matters, written by our co-founder and Managing Director, Nicky Mih, is a book about courage and achieving the seemingly impossible. It is for people who are ready to step up in their life and leadership.
Nicky deftly takes us on a journey of the complexities and challenges of leading a child protection organisation. Working with families facing immense difficulties and children battling to go to school has taught Nicky Mih many lessons that have changed the way she lives and leads.
“I was worried that this topic would crush me, but it’s so powerful, positive and uplifting that it’s a joy to read.”
– Jason Malouin, Portrait Store
Gifting the book to a friend or colleague is an excellent way to introduce them to Free To Shine.
Do what matters is a call to action to do more with the life we too often take for granted.
It is a reminder to do what matters most to you – in your business, with your family, and in the world.
About the Author
Nicky Mih is a woman on a mission – to prevent school aged girls being trafficked into the commercial sex industry, a mission set for her by survivors themselves.
Nicky leads a team of social workers and education officers who work with community leaders, police, schools and families to secure the safety of girls across rural Cambodia, and help them achieve their rights to access education, safe drinking water, enough food and adequate shelter.
“So many children, with so much less than we have, are doing so much more than we think is possible, seizing opportunities to make the world better. There is so much we can learn from them.”
– Nicky Mih
I was moved beyond measure by her courage, her leadership, her humanity.
In a world that can seem filled with darkness Nicky is a shining light. She projects light on one of the most confronting subjects with grace and a determination that we can make this right.
I love how Nicky shares what she’s learnt from Cambodian people rather than simply her perspective. By giving their stories a voice she shares their cultural wisdom with compassion and respect. This is a powerful book for everyone who cares about making a difference in the world.
Nicky Mih has managed to open my eyes to the reality of a world largely invisible to me while giving me a heart transplant, punching me in my conscience, and motivating me into positive action to do something… something that matters. Read it. You’ll never be the same again.
You will be taken on a ride of courage and bravery, underpinned by generosity of spirit with a clear goal to change humanity. Will she succeed? Nicky Mih has already succeeded. This is a book for everyone.
