Free To Shine's Statement on the Situation at the Cambodia-Thailand border

Free To Shine is deeply concerned about the escalating conflict along the border regions and its devastating impact on children, families and communities. As an organisation working to prevent the exploitation and abuse of children through education and community support, we are monitoring the situation closely and standing in solidarity with those affected.

Conflict and displacement create conditions that place children and families at significant risk. Many children are currently unable to attend school, leaving them vulnerable to trauma, instability and protection concerns. The psychological impact of violence and uncertainty can have long-term consequences on children’s wellbeing, development and safety.

Free To Shine recognises that crises such as this can heighten risks of child exploitation, family separation and emotional distress. We remain committed to safeguarding children and supporting communities to stay strong, connected and informed during these challenging times. Our team continues to work closely with local partners and authorities to ensure that the children and families we serve remain supported and protected.

We also acknowledge the significant emotional and practical challenges faced by our team and partner organisations who live or work near the affected areas, or who have family and community ties there. The wellbeing and safety of our team remain our highest priority. Free To Shine is providing tailored support and flexibility to help the team navigate the stress and uncertainty of this crisis, ensuring they remain safe, supported and connected throughout this difficult time.

Every child deserves to grow up safe, go to school and pursue their future free from violence and fear. Free To Shine calls for peaceful resolution and the protection of children’s rights in all circumstances. We reaffirm our commitment to continue providing life-changing education and child protection support, ensuring that children and their families have the stability and safety they need to thrive—even in times of crisis.
